Free Read – Books for Incarcerated Women in Arkansas
Free Read is a volunteer-run program that distributes free literature to women incarcerated in Arkansas state prisons. We believe everyone should be free to read and that literacy enables inmates to further their education, which has the potential of reducing recidivism.
We are dedicated to offering the opportunity for self-empowerment, education, and entertainment that reading provides. Spending all or part of your life in a cell is isolating, stifling, and full of heartbreak. Most women are separated from children and loved ones. Free Read offers one way to break the isolation and connect with a world outside of the cell.
Free Read is a ministry of Grace Chapter of Daughters of the King and St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Little Rock, Arkansas.
We need your help to keep the female inmates of Arkansas reading. Please see our “How You Can Help” section for ways you can get involved.
